The Unexpected View

Zennor

from a collection of fifty poems

This place lies unaltered.

It's hard to reach;

You need stamina.

All talk is of the elements

All work is of the land

Or sea

All news is of a neighbour

All views are of the church or sea.

Rainfall in dark.

Long temperate dawn;

The great shift approaches

Retrieving lost horizons

Forging silvers up from night

Christening with distance

Fine colours of Atlantic life.

From an inset of shore

To steeple-top hill

All sleep at this edge

Lightly aware of the Sun.
