The Unexpected View
from a collection of fifty poems
Once, during a walk in torrential rain
We disturbed small covey of partridges:
They broke at once from beneath our feet
In chorus of wing beats and windswept cries
Set rain-slicked backs to teeth of gale;
Scattered through murgh of atrocious field.
Now out bright window . . there they all are!
Winter morning reprise on the farmhouse wall.
